According to a number of reliable data sources spirits producers around the country are expanding their geographical reach thanks to greater consumer interest and evolving shipping laws. While U.S. wineries may generally seem to be at the forefront of the inter-state shipping battle, artisanal spirits are often better funded and can have greater sales appeal to consumers in other states. So, the artisanal spirits sales category continues to be a key one to watch.
According to the Wilmington, Massachusetts-based Sovos ShipCompliant—which tracks direct-to-consumer sales data—and the Oakton, Virginia-based American Craft Spirits Association (ACSA), 73 percent of regular craft spirits drinkers say they are likely to purchase craft spirits via direct-to-consumer (DtC) channels in the future, with 64 percent of regular craft spirits drinkers planning to purchase craft spirits via DtC shipping in 2023.
